Welcome To The
Chekia Canine Family
and Avondell Cats
Chekia was officially established in 1971
to represent what has been maintained as small family of
Judiciously Bred, Lovingly Raised, and Naturally Reared
Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs.
.Over the years, we have come to love, train, show,
and enjoy many breeds, including American Eskimos, Maltese,
and mom's Yorkshire Terriers.
We were also actively involved in Rescue for over three decades.

Avondell, established in  1993, is a TICA registered cattery
formerly representing home raised and champion bred
Bengal  & Cashmere Bengal (semi long coated) Cats.
In the future, we will be working with several others on
the developnent of a new breed called the Snowcub.

This website is a celebration of the individual dogs, cats,
and breeds we love ,
and have loved over the past many years.
It is also an extensive informational source for all who
share a love and respect for purebred and non purebred pets..
Enjoy your visit!

     Avondell Bengals was
   founded in 1993 and
became a grand champion
  producing cattery despite
       it's small numbers
          and infrequent
             breediing
                  program.
In recent years, the small program continued
with a concentration on the semi long coated
                  or "Cashmere" Bengal.  Today we
are working with several breeders in other areas
to                               to develop a new breed,                                                                        resembling a small
                                                          Snow Leopard,
                                                         and called the
                                                          Snowcub.

                                                                      breeder
                                                                        referral.
Browse this section for articles and
                    information on all aspects
                         of pets and pet ownership.
                           New features are
                             added regularly,
                              so come back
                                   often.

For the simple love of dogs, reptuable  breeders established the
    concept of rescue.
                                                   Chekia became
                                           an active part of that
effort at it's inception.                                              Pictured are just a
                                                 few of the dogs                                                   rescued,rehabilitated,
and rehomed by  Chekia Dog Rescue.
Please note we NO LONGER take in Rescue Dogs                      and now participate as referral only.
Come on in to the
store and find items
of clothing, kitchen
ware, office
products, and
more featuring
many breeds
of dogs,
our cats,
and
more.      .
Initially designed to help defray the costs
involved with Rescue, the Gift Shop
      has become an ever growing
         on line store featuring
                         unique designs and
                        even custom images
                                   for others.
                            We love showcasing
                            our talented dogs and
                                cats in the photo
                                  images, and they
                                       in turn enjoy
                                          just showing off!
Representing Weatherwax Trained Dogs, and in association with
Blue Heron International Pictures, Temple Grandin and Wendy Francisco,
we are thrilled to present our first mini documentary,
The Weatherwax Legacy,
co produced by Terry Thistlethwaite and Richard Lester,
and directed by Gary Lester.
The generations long tradition of wholesome family values and the joy of pet ownership
represented by the Weatherwax Lassie Dogs is a celebration of ideals with which
The Chekia Family is proud to be affiliated.
We salute Bob Weatherwax in his determination to carry on this legacy
with his commitment to to teach people to train their own dogs for a higher purpose;
that of Therapy and Service dog work
"So they'll have that avenue; they'll have that pathway,
to work with people's hearts and minds"
